Greetings everyone! Foodies and chefs alike! I bid you welcome to the very first entry in what I hope is a long-running food blog.
My name is Andrew and I’m an aspiring pastry chef/foodie currently residing in New Jersey. I am 22-years old as of this posting and my love for food stretches back far into my childhood, begging my mother for more of the week’s Filipino delicacy that, to this day, I have trouble pronouncing. Although, I must confess, food wasn’t always the center of attention of my life. Growing up, I had a strong fascination with the sciences; Biology in particular. I entered college hoping to make a lucrative career out of the scientific field. Yeah…that didn’t work out so well. So there I was, in my 3rd year of college with no direction or motivation. What was I to do? The answer came innocently enough, I suppose.
In the cafeteria of my old college there was a hot station where enterprising students could make their own breakfast/lunch/dinner. So, I experimented one day and sure enough, made a pretty darn good meal. While my girlfriend at the time dismissed it as a passing fad, my other friends urged me to follow my creative senses. So, each day I’d go in and make something new, being sure to make extra samples for my curious friends. One thing led to another and, after much soul searching, I decided to pursue my culinary curiosity and transferred out of my old college and into the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. I’m proud to say that I begin classes there on June 1st, 2010.
So what can you expect from this blog? First thing’s first: I LOVE food. Doesn’t matter what it is, I love it. I love cooking, I love experimenting with recipes (either found on the internet, thought of off the top of my head or seen on TV) and I LOVE the Food Network (also, I now hate Cablevision…). So, long story short, you’ll see a lot of food rants, recipes, food trivia and the like. I hope you all enjoy and come back for seconds!
